ePandit is built on the work of scholars, publishers, type designers and open-source developers. Thank you. Listing a source here does not mean that source endorses ePandit.
Festival content · पर्व सामग्री
Each festival page in the app links to the exact articles it draws on. The main references are:
- Drik Panchang: festival dates and panchang (cited on all 47 festival days)
- Encyclopaedia Britannica: history and meaning of festivals
- Valmiki Ramayana: the primary scripture for festivals connected with Shri Ram
Aarti texts · आरती
The aartis are traditional devotional texts. Each one in the app was compared line by line with at least three published versions; where they differed on a word, we used the reading most of them share. The English is our own line-by-line translation. Versions consulted:
- Drik Panchang and Bhakti Bharat (used for all 12 aartis)
- Bharat Discovery (Bharatkosh), Shubh Panchang, Amar Ujala, Prabhat Khabar, Patrika, Aaj Tak, Webdunia, Navbharat Live, Hindi Bhajan Manjari, and Wikipedia (Hindi and English)
Typefaces · अक्षर
- Tiro Devanagari Hindi by Tiro Typeworks (John Hudson and Fiona Ross), used for headings
- Mukta by Ek Type, used for body text
Both are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
Music · संगीत
The soft tanpura drone under the aarti player was created for ePandit.
Software
ePandit is built with React Native and Expo, with open-source libraries including React Navigation, Reanimated, react-native-svg and SQLite. Each is used under its own licence (mostly MIT). Ads are provided by Google AdMob and usage statistics by Google Analytics for Firebase.
